Growing up, I was always overweight, but it never really bothered me. I felt happy and comfortable in my body. I even did competitive sports so you couldn’t say that I was just lazy. But with more exercise came more hunger for me. One day, I looked in the mirror and saw myself as overweight and that’s when my weight loss journey started.
Growing up, I was always overweight, but it never really bothered me. Even when others told me how overweight I was, I felt happy and comfortable in my body. I even did competitive sports so you couldn’t say that I was just lazy.
But with more exercise came more hunger for me. One day, I looked in the mirror and saw myself as overweight and that’s when my weight loss journey started. It was also when I decided to start my first diet program. On it I lost 40lbs and soon my journey no longer focused on just losing weight- it became about how I felt eating better, about realizing my parent’s unhealthy habits that they had passed on, and it became about exploring food. What started out as a weight loss journey opened a new world of trying different recipes and foods. I learned about the ingredients in food and how carbs, protein and fat work in your body and why they’re important. I learned to make food from scratch like bread, pasta, yogurt, granola and apple sauce. I also learned and was fascinated by the psychology behind food and eating habits. So many times, the act of eating has nothing to do with nourishing our body and has everything to do with our mental state. I successfully held the weight I lost through moving away from home, through starting my first job as a nurse and through moving to a different country and going to college there. It wasn’t until I moved in with my husband that I fell off the wagon. He introduced me to delicious foods like milkshakes and his bad eating habits became mine. A year into our relationship, none of my clothes fit and I didn’t feel comfortable in my body. I had traded my exploration of food for fast food and convenience and decided enough was enough. I re-joined that diet program but could never really get back into the program, nor did I want to pay that much. That’s when I found Healthi and the flexibility of the different plans. I have now found a plan that works for me and my lifestyle. I’m now slowly starting back on my exploration of food and what makes my body feel good. This time, it’s not just me but also convincing my husband to give new things a try. Thankfully he loves trying new stuff!
